Despite what many white people would like to believe -- and what the mainstream media says is so -- racism and white privilege are still alive and well. And it's an important issue that we should be discussing and grappling with regularly in our classrooms, boardrooms, and, well, everywhere.
It's always inspiring to use the voices of young people to inspire and educate other young people, so a video of two young African American poets telling it like it is serves as a great tool to spark discussion with students. As they say: "You don't get cool points...when your privilege is still the most prominent thing about you." (Note: The performance includes profanity.)

Everybody says there is a problem called White Privilege. Everybody says this White Privilege problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into white countries.
The Netherlands and Belgium are just as crowded as Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve Asian Privilege by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.
Everybody says the final solution to this White Privilege problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY white countries to “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-whites.
What if I said there was this problem called Black Privilege and this Black Privilege would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries?
How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a Black Privilege problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem?
And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn’t object to this?
But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the white race, Liberals and respectable conservatives agree that I am a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews.
They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-white.
Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.
Hi, Anonymous, thanks for your comment. I can see that you have some really strong feelings about this issue, and I know it can be really scary to experience so much change and uncertainty.
I also see a lot of assumptions, judgments and generalizations in what you say. The only people I have seen talk about people from other countries "pouring" into other countries (there is no such thing as a white country, by the way), are white people who are filled with fear.
I believe that you are speaking from a place of fear, rather than a place of knowledge. White privilege seems nonexistent to those of us who benefit from it most. I would highly encourage you to read books like Privilege, Power & Difference by Allan Johnson, so that you're aware of how much power institutionalized privilege has, and so that you're more informed about some of these assumptions and judgments you're making.
